1787 Vermont Copper, rare Bust Right, Ryder 15, R6-, F-VF.

101.2 grains. A newly discovered example of this classic Vermont rarity. This is a very presentable piece with fairly smooth, deep brown surfaces with just some of the always seen planchet flaws and a slight trace of roughness in the fields. Two minor dents to the planchet, one just past 12 o’clock on the obverse and the other just before 12 o’clock on the reverse, are the only post-strike issues. Struck slightly off center but only a tiny bit of the left side legends were affected, and the all-important date area with it’s huge die break is well-displayed. There are only 30 or so examples of Ryder 15, and despite several having come up at auction over the last decade it remains an elusive coin with virtually the entire population in strong hands. Here is an excellent opportunity to obtain a more than respectable specimen of one of the most desirable state copper varieties.
