(1737) Higley Copper, Broad Axe, J CUT MY WAY, Freidus 3.2-C, R7, PCGS F detail.

Ex Allison W. Jackman, Henry Chapman 6/1918, lot 73 - Ted Craige, Stack's Bowers 3/13/2013, lot 198.

We're pleased to offer this well-pedigreed and relatively accessible Higley Copper, a classic colonial rarity. While the surfaces are moderately rough from ground burial, this piece has a lot going for it including better than average sharpness and an especially well-detailed obverse, a glossy deep olive brown patina, no notable damage besides the corrosion, and perhaps most importantly - a century-old provenance. This coin was likely a nice VF or better before being lost to the earth given the strength of the detail in places and the lack of marks or damage. Worthy of consideration if you'd like to own an example of the type and a good buy considering an appreciably better piece is likely to cost about twice as much.
