1737 Higley Copper, Value Me As You Please, 3 Hammers, Friedus 3.1-B.a, PCGS F12.

Ex Henry Chapman 1/1915, lot 41 - Col. James W. Ellsworth 1923 - John Work Garrett - Garrett Collection (part 3), Bowers & Ruddy 10/1980, lot 1304 - Archangel Collection, Stack's Bowers 10/26/2018, lot 7049.

144.3 grains. A wonderful example with incredibly nice eye appeal for a Higley. Original medium brown surfaces that hard, glossy, and free from any significant problems, either pre- or post-strike. A good majority of the legends and motifs are fully outlined, there is some weakness at the upper left obverse and lower left reverse due to axially misaligned dies, but all of the words are at least partially visible and the dear, three hammers, date, and other decorations are generally bold. This is one of the finest of eight known examples of this particular die variety and one of precious few Higleys that can rightly be called "problem-free." Has a fine, century-old provenance as well. An all-around impressive and highly desirable specimen of this legendary and enchanting colonial rarity.
